We stopped at the Memorial - a beautifully designed, peaceful space, looking out across the Bay to Sleeping Giant Island.

Terry Fox's courage always moves me to tears, and spending time on the stretch of highway where his Marathon of Hope ended was an emotional experience.
A great Canadian.

Through Thunder Bay and on up toward Ignace, our original plan was to camp at Sandbar Lake Provincial Park. The threat of thunderstorms and a darkening sky meant that the extra hour or so to Dryden made sense. The Comfort Inn there was, well, comfortable and pooch-friendly.
Along the way we stopped at the point where the watersheds shift:
The images above of moose and bears remind me that from early in the trip, there have been road signs warning of rampaging moose, about every 5 kilometres.
They lie. I have seen nary a moose so far.
Saw a wolf (too big to be a coyote) loping across the highway early on Wednesday morning, just inside Superior Provincial Park. Beautiful. And given my affinity for all things canine, better than a stupid moose any day.
Not many wildlife sightings to speak of, other than chipmunks, red squirrels, and one groundhog. Lots of loon calls, though, so it's all good.
Once in Dryden, we reorganized all the gear (H supervised from her bed with her eyes closed; amazing how she can do that), then went on a very long walk to the Wabigoon Riverfront past the huge Domtar Mill.
Next Stop, the Peg.
Glad you're treating yourself (and of course your travelling companion) to comfortable accommodations when the weather isn't the greatest. Safe - and fun - travels ...
