Rainbow Falls - it must be Wednesday

(Full disclosure - today is Thursday and I am behind by a day in these posts - not enough juice yesterday to power the computer or the human)
.....1115 km so far and counting.....
Superior from a picnic stop just after Marathon
Stunning scenery along Superior and up to Wawa. Perfectly accompanied by a mix of Bruce and Joni. With some Irrelevant Show podcasts thrown in for good measure. I didn't take many pictures, since they rarely do justice to the real version. Superlatives failed as we rounded curve after curve to see more glimpses of Superior and soaring rock faces.

Humbling. Grateful.

So many evocative images in just two days, reminding me of kayak trips in Georgian Bay, learning paddling skills at White Squall north of Parry Sound, Canoeing in the French River. Even some long ago memories of a family drive from Orillia to Manitoba's Riding Mountain National Park for a family reunion in the late seventies. Bad hair. Yikes.

Gas prices

Gas prices, as might be expected, increase with the latitude. This station was owned by a friendly former Minnesotan who, twenty or so years ago, came for the fishin' and huntin' and stayed. Excellent judgement on his part. Just sayin'.

Happy Hailey following satisfying swim

We camped at Rainbow Falls Provincial Park, just after Schreiber. I hadn't heard of it either. The Park had a great swimming beach with no one using it so H and I enjoyed some excellent paddling. Featured at the beach were swarms of swallowtail butterflies, flitting happily above the sand.

The Palace on night two

The site was blissfully quiet, almost making up for the several bazillion insects (none biting, just annoying) and the dirt/dust situation. Perfect for determined digging and a canine dirt bath. Not to be confused with human mud bath. Sigh.

Next stop, Thunder Bay and on to Sandbar Lake near Ignace. I hadn't heard of it either.

  2. Tom here, (as I'm not allowed my own sign in). Thanks for the pics, especially of GG (Golden Goddess)Take heart with your current gas prices. Just returned from the Island yesterday and gas there is $1.21. Oh and get rid of the bugs before you leave the area. Thanks. Hugs from Orillia. The IBs
